At A Glance Questions:
What book are you reading at the moment?
I’m reading a book called “In the Meantime” by Iyanla Vanzant. The book is about how to use your time that you are in limbo on how to prepare your mind and soul to be ready for love when it arrives.
Summer is essentially in full swing and it feels like the world is healing. What song do you currently have on repeat?
So glad you asked this question! Obsessed with the new Beyonce song “Break My Soul” its currently in repeat and getting me through all my workouts.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
This is a great question, one that honestly took me a minute to think about because I feel like I have been given a lot of valuable info throughout my life, but I would say the best piece has been to always trust everyone to be themselves. Meaning people will usually tell on themselves if you pay attention long enough, people cant keep up their act of who they truly are forever so if you pay attention their truth always shines through.
Feature Questions:
A+P: Bare Root Remedy is such a game changer and boasts high quality herbal products that actually work. How did the brand come about and what inspires you when coming up with new products?
Connor: First and foremost thank you very much for the compliment, I really appreciate you. Like a lot of other people who started businesses it came about during the pandemic. I was a full time flight attendant and like a lot of others I lost my job, well didn’t lose my job but i wasn’t working when the world shut down. I was so used to traveling and moving so quickly I never really had time to sit and think of my long term goal and aspirations. All I knew was that I loved all things health and wellness. I knew I had an influence on people as well because every time I would post something I take like vitamins or a health remedy I would get tons of people sending me screenshots that they purchased what I posted. It hit me during the pandemic that I should start my own line instead of promoting brands I wasn’t getting paid for. After I decided on a name it was like dominos, one thing led to another and a year later bare root was born.
A+P: What do you love most about curating new products?
I think thats been the fun part and also the struggle. Creating new products are fun but its also like “is this what people want and need.” Its been fun creating products and testing the market with them but I can see now what my customers personally like and what they don’t like.
A+P: Since the pandemic, I’ve noticed so many more people choosing holistic remedies over pharmaceuticals and its been incredible to see people making the switch. Of all of your products, which are the top three you recommend for summer especially?
CM: My top 3 recommendations for summer products would be the Watermelon Hemp Seed Oil of course. Its one of the best oils I’ve ever used and super hydrating because of the watermelon seeds and the sativa thats in it, if you suffer from dry skin or sunburns this oil should be your go to! It can also be used multipurpose as a tanning oil (my fav).
I would recommend the Chlorophyll Me drops. Chlorophyll contains high levels of vitamins A, C, E, and K. It also contains folic acid, iron, calcium, and protein. Additionally, this biomolecule is a significant source of magnesium, which makes up the center of its cellular structure. The magnesium is extremely alkalizing, helping to deliver oxygen to tissues and cells. Chlorophyll can help with hangovers because of how hydrating it is. it increases energy levels and its great for your skin.
Lastly, I would recommend our product called Digest It. I feel like summertime means vacation and travel and also kind of indulging on the food we choose to eat. Digest it is a digestive enzyme that helps break down food to pass through your digestive tract faster. Especially good for anyone who has gluten or dairy intolerances. Anytime I over eat or eat things I normally wouldn’t eat, Digest It is my go to.
A+P: What is the most fulfilling part of running your brand?
CM: The most fulfilling part of my brand is receiving messages online from customers when they share how my product has helped them with whatever issue they were dealing with. Every single message. They don’t go unnoticed and every time I get one, I tear up a little.
A+P: How do you balance having a demanding career with carving out time for yourself to regroup?
CM: My mental health comes before any and everything except God. I will tell you right now if I need a mental health day a week because I’m feeling overwhelmed, I will take it. I have been burnt out to where I don’t want to do much and my energy is low and I realized I’m just overworking myself. I allow my body to tell me when I need to shut it off or slow it down or else my body will physically do it for me.
A+P: What can we expect next from you and Bare Root Remedy?
CM: I am currently working on new formulations. I listen to and read what my customers are telling me they want and need so new stuff is on the way but formulations and testing take time. My goal is to be in major retailers like whole foods and Erewhon so I’m working diligently on that but for now just enjoying the process and being grateful for where I am I don’t take any of this for granted
